Principle

Some private pools for individual or collective (that is to say the family pools or reserved for residents, hotel pools, campsites, farmhouses ...) must be equipped with a safety device to prevent the risk of drowning, especially young children.

Equipment required

Pool owners must install one of the four following equipment:


Type of equipment	Safety Information
Barrier	It must be performed, constructed or installed so: to prevent the passage of a child of less than 5 years without the aid of an adult, to resist the action of a child of less than 5 years, particularly as regards the locking system of access to the pool, and not to cause injury.
Safety cover (tarp)	It must be performed, constructed or installed so: to prevent accidental flooding of a child under 5 years to resist the crossing of an adult, and not to cause injury.
Shelter (conservatory type structure covering the entire basin)	It should be performed, constructed or installed so that the pool is inaccessible to a child under 5 years, when the shelter is closed, and not to cause injury.
Alarm	It must be performed, constructed or installed so that all controls activation and deactivation can not be used by a child under 5 years. Detection systems must be able to detect any crossing of the basin by a child under 5 years and trigger a warning device consisting of a siren. The latter should not be able to trigger inadvertently.

Each of these facilities must comply with standards set by the French Association for Standardization (AFNOR).

Equipment required
